Here are a few species of shrubs, conifers and trees that are resistant to de-icing salts: White Ash (Fraxinus americana), Maidenhair Tree (Gingko biloba), Common Sea-Buckthorn (Hippophae rhamnoides), Bigleaf Hydrangea (Hydrangea macrophylla), Creeping Juniper (Juniperus horizontalis), Tamarack (Larix laricina), Blue Spruce (Picea pungens ‘Glauca’), Northern Red Oak (Quercus rubra), Rugosa Rose (Rosa rugosa), Japonese Tree Lilac (Syringa reticulata), and Saltcedar (Tamarix ramosissima).
